The Russian population has long been under the pressure of propaganda. This propaganda plants and nurtures a parallel reality where ethics, rights, and wrongs are dictated by the Kremlin.
Propaganda serves as a tool to unify the thinking of the Russian population, promoting “traditional values” such as religious values, parent-child ties, deference to authority and traditional family values. That results in the promotion of homophobia, transphobia, and racism among the Russian society. Presently, it seems impossible for outsiders to comprehend the situation fully. However, the government’s efforts in brainwashing and unifying the popular opinion have led to the social perception among Russians that their community is misunderstood and met with hostility by the rest of the world.
The letter “Z” is now utilized in the context of supporting the invasion of Ukraine and the war against the Nazi regime, which, according to the Kremlin, currently reigns in the neighboring country. This letter, also an onomatopoeia for sleeping, serves as a tool to put to sleep any critical thinking.
